About Us

Founded in 1961, the Riverside Hawks began solely as a youth basketball team based in the iconic Riverside Church in Upper Manhattan. Over the past 58 years, the organization has blossomed into a year-round academic/athletic program serving more than 300 girls and boys who live primarily in the New York Metropolitan area. The program has been nationally recognized for both its basketball and academic success and continues to believe in using athletics as an avenue to promote academic achievement and excellence and character development of its student-athletes.

Together, through a partnership among students, parents, educators, and coaches, the program creates a foundational support system for young people by giving them the necessary tools needed to ensure success in all of their academic and athletic pursuits. The program values its academic initiatives just as much as its basketball prowess. Our academic initiatives range from general enrichment for our second graders to providing tutoring and high school admissions guidance for our middle schoolers and college counseling for our high schoolers. The Hawks have a tremendous reputation for supporting and fostering academic success, with a college attendance rate of close to 100%.

Your donations go towards the most important operations of our program, including sending our student-athletes to national tournaments and showcases before college coaches, high school admissions and exam fees, SSAT, TACH, SAT & ACT preparation, and tours of colleges and cultural institutions, among others.

The Riverside Hawks' mission has and will remain the same. We will use our platform built on athletic excellence to emphasize our extensive academic initiatives designed to help all our boys and girls attend and graduate from college while also furthering our community outreach throughout New York City.
